Size/ColorSatin Black / 5FT x 50FT

Satin Black is a deep black with a restrained glow in it — closer to black velvet or the sidewall of a new tyre than to either a showroom gloss black or a chalk-flat matte. It is a colour-change vinyl film supplied as one 5 ft × 50 ft roll for drivers who want the blackest possible finish without the mirror reflection that comes with gloss.

  • Deep satin black with a soft, even sheen — no mirror reflection, no chalk flatness
  • Acrylic-based air-release adhesive, repositionable during fitting; dry application
  • One roll, 5 ft × 50 ft (250 sq ft gross) for full colour changes, roof and bonnet work, and trim

FAQ

Is this matte or satin?

Satin. It keeps a soft, even sheen, where a true matte diffuses almost all reflection and looks chalkier.

Can I wax or polish it?

No. Polish, wax and gloss-enhancing products permanently change a satin surface and cannot be removed. pH-neutral shampoo only.

Is it a true black or a dark grey?

A true black. Next to a dark grey the difference is obvious; the film only looks lighter where direct sun lifts the sheen.

Are scuffs and fingerprints repairable?

Not the way they are on gloss. Satin cannot be polished without changing the sheen, so preventing marks during fitting is the practical route.

Will one roll wrap my whole car?

Depends on the vehicle. 250 sq ft of material is not 250 sq ft of installed coverage — measure your panels and plan seams before assuming one roll is enough.

Finish and appearance

Satin
It is a true black, not a charcoal — hold it next to a dark grey and the difference is obvious. The satin character is what sets it apart: there is enough sheen that the surface is clearly a finished one, but not enough to reflect a recognisable image. Think of the way light sits on black velvet, or on the rubber of a fresh tyre: bright at the peak of a curve, dark in the hollows, with a soft transition between them. On a gloss black the same curve would show a hard, mirror-like highlight instead.

Satin sits between gloss and matte, and the practical consequence is that it flatters body lines while hiding less-than-perfect paint: the diffuse sheen spreads over small ripples rather than sharpening them into visible reflections. In direct sun the sheen lifts and the film reads lighter than it does in shade — blacks of any finish are the most light-dependent colour there is. At night it goes almost entirely flat and merges into shadow, which is the effect most people are after when they choose it.

Two honest caveats about black in general. It shows dust, water spots and swirl marks more readily than any lighter colour, and it is the hardest colour to photograph — gallery images of this film will either look grey from over-exposure or lose all shape to shadow. Neither is what you will see on the car. Treat the screen as an indication of the finish, not as a colour-accurate match.

Appearance varies with lighting, viewing angle, panel shape and display.

Plan your material

This roll measures 5 ft × 50 ft (250 sq ft gross area). It does not guarantee coverage for a particular vehicle.

  1. Measure panels individually, including edges and curves.
  2. Check cut direction and seams against the 5 ft width.
  3. Allow for alignment and recuts; confirm the plan with your installer before cutting.

Installation and care

The air-release adhesive helps trapped air move toward an open edge. The film can be lifted and repositioned during installation. Apply as directed in the instructions supplied for this film.

Wait 24–48 hours before the first wash. Hand wash with pH-neutral car shampoo and avoid abrasive or automatic brush washes. For removal, use heat-assisted removal as directed for this film; paint condition and installation time can affect results. Test a small area first.
